Street Dogs – Overview
2015-Present
I’ve always been drawn to the street animals of the world – wherever humans live, so do cats, dogs, pigeons, rats, and so many other dependent species that make their living in a world separate but inextricably connected to our own. However, it is the mighty street dog, or callejero, that takes center stage in my project.
It is estimated that 80% of the world’s dogs are street dogs – feral animals that live among humans, but not as pets. During the past few years, I have traveled to small towns and big cities in Oaxaca and the Yucatan, and have followed street dogs around for days in an effort to photograph, map out, and understand this life of theirs.
